Electronic Community Services Network

ROMA Home

This small email discussion group engages in active brainstorming. We think about our community services network (CSN) as a whole--all the local community action agencies, all the state CSBG offices, all of the state, regional and national associations as well as all of the consulting experts, taken together. The ECSN creatively identifies groups of people within our CSN that naturally have shared interests, for example, human resources directors or webmasters. The ECSN actively experiments to determine which of these various groups find they have shared interests, in the real world, that lend themselves to the creation of electronic communities.

The ECSN will experiment with different electronic networking technologies that go beyond email discussion groups (listservs) perhaps including chat rooms, message boards and ???

Who should join?
For this group to be successful, at least three types of people need to be involved:

  • People who have a wide breadth of experience within our community services network;
  • People who spend a fair amount of time wandering around the Internet, whether professionally or personally, who can generalize from electronic communities they've seen elsewhere to our CSN opportunities, and
  • Creative thinkers--one management typology refers to these team members as "idea hamsters" because their idea wheels are always spinning.
