| Minnesotas Early Results of the Self-Reliance Achievement Scale | The Self-Reliance Achievement Scale is a new way to measure progress towards self-reliance and stability of low-income people. It is designed to document the progress of low-income individuals and families in 15 essential aspects of economic stability, called domains. A year long pilot test of the Scale in Minnesota shows promising results.
A unique mix of services was provided by each local community agency in across the 15 dimensions of self-reliance. For more information see: MN ROMA web site The scaling tool as well as instructions on how to use it can be found below.
Preliminary data on 456 participants from seven different Community Action Agencies provides a testimony both to the efforts of the participants both to improve their own situation, and to the blend of services that Community Action Agencies provide to low-income Minnesotans. In 11 of the 15 domains of self-reliance covered on The Self-Reliance Achievement Scale, participants who received Community Action services showed greater progress than those who did not.
Challenges: Charting the complex journey towards self-reliance, with it's real-world mix of setbacks and progress. Telling the story of not just one family, but many families in many communities, in a way that is reliable and meaningful.
